Another weekend, another day out ... York is of course a very nice city, a small city, easy to walk around and we have enjoyed walking around town many times, but all around York are plenty of other smaller towns to explore and we'll slowly tick them off our list! Beverley is about 30 miles ESE of York and only about 10 miles from Hull. Beverley is an old market town with the market on Saturdays .. so we visited on a Saturday in October. Not a long drive from home, about 45 minutes and we easily found parking near the town center (in a pay and display car park ... note : On the way out of town we spotted a place to park for free just out of town .. for next time!)
First place to visit .. Beverley Minster. Yes, there is a Minster here too. And for anyone wondering .. something to read : Why are some Cathedrals called Minsters?. We walked along a narrow street called Highgate to reach the Minster which is just a bit south of the town center. Along that street is an old Inn called The Monk's Walk .. with a narrow passageway leading through to the next street (Eastgate).
And the bells were ringing as we walked up the street ...
Although the sky was a bit grey, it soon cleared - everything looks better with a blue sky ...

After the Minster we just wandered around, in and out of small shops buying snacks like scotch eggs and pies and cakes .. English street food, lunch on the go! Beverley has lots of these small independent shops. I like these kind of market towns with unique shops. We'll need another visit to get to know the town a bit better and we'll be happy to visit Beverley again!
