Now here's a place we will return to on a sunny day. Great place for a walk, excellent coastal scenery and some good nosh too! We visited in September 2019. Hopefully we can visit again this summer some time, if that darn Covid-19 allows! It's a bit more than an hour to drive there from our house in York. Flamborough Head is just east of Bridlington and the dramatic headland features miles of steep, white chalk cliffs. Another reason we want to return in summer is for the seabirds. September was a bit late for puffins. We do have a plan to take a boat trip from Bridlington around the head to Bempton Cliffs on the north side of Flamborough Head.
Anyway, even without so many birds, we had a very good day. There are a few places you can park in the area. We parked at the South Landing. There is also a North Landing and you can park at Flamborough Head itself. The South Landing is the home of the RNLI Flamborough Head Lifeboat Station. Started off a bit chilly as we walked along the clifftop path along the edge of the wheat fields.
It turned out to be a bit further than I thought to walk from the South Landing to Flamborough Head. I mean, only about 3 miles, which took about an hour, but I'd told the kids it was only going to be 20 - 30 minutes to reach a cafe! At Flamborough Head itself there is a cafe and a lighthouse. As we got closer we could see the lighthouse so I could console the kids with "we're nearly there!"
It was pretty busy at the Headlands Cafe and we were lucky to find a table inside, in a kind of conservatory area, nice and warm and with a bit of a view. Despite being busy, our food did not take too long and the portions were huge - I did not need to order the extra chips with my bacon & cheese melt! Our son got an enormous plate of fish and chips, daughter had lasagne and my wife had some fishcakes. And of course I had a pint of beer :) Prices very reasonable and we look forward to eating there again!

I think the best and highest cliffs are between the head and the North landing, so I think next time we'll park at the North landing and walk to the cafe for another big feed! We sat outside the cafe and had an ice cream too!
